July 2002, this resort is designed to stand among the most luxurious
hotels in the South Pacific . Recently affiliated to the prestigious
Relais & Chateaux association , the resort is located on the coral
reef of motu Tautau and faces the island of Taha'a on the lagoon side
and offers an unsurpassed view of the island of Bora Bora on the ocean
side. This traditional Polynesian style hotel is 5 minutes by private
boat from the main island of Taha'a and thirty minutes from the airport across the lagoon from the island of Raiatea.
This resort
offers 48 OverWater Suites & 12 Beach Suites.
The large
Beach suite are located under the trees at the edge of the coconut grove. They
have a private patio in a small tropical garden with a private plunge
pool, a separate spacious lounge and a bedroom with a 4 poster bed.
The bathroom has an outdoor tub and is very attractively decorated.
The deck leads to the beach and looks on to the lagoon and the island
of Tahaa.
The overwater
bungalows are also some of the largest and best appointed bungalow in
the South Pacific and feature 2 panoramic windows as well as a glass
table with "fish feeding" access to the lagoon. The spacious
private deck has a separate breakfast covered area, 2 comfortable lounge
chairs and direct access into the crystal waters of the lagoon.

- The "Bora Bora's" which have a view of the lagoon, Tahaa, and
a partial view of Bora Bora in the distance.
- The "End of Pontoon's" which offer the ultimate in privacy and optimal view
The public
areas and main restaurant are built amongst the trees tops, providing
a lovely view on the lagoon and Taha'a Island in a shaded environment.
There are
3 restaurants : one adjacent to the pool and beach, the other two in
the heart of the resort among the trees : the main one for buffet and
polynesian show and the other for fine dining.
The infinity
pool is located by the lagoon and a small pass and offers idyllic views
of the islands and the turquoise waters nearby. There is good snorkeling
in the pass leading to the reef.
Besides
the wide range of activities & excursions available in Raiatea &
Taha'a, the resort has its own diving center and spa as well as Jetski
rentals.
There are
two different ways to get to the hotel: a 30 mn boat transfer from the
Airport on Raiatea or a 15 mn helicopter transfer for VIP clients from
Bora Bora Airport to the hotel's helipad .
The location,
views and surrounding waters make the Taha'a Private Resort &
Spa one of the most exclusive hideaway in the sparkling
waters of the South Pacific.

A short 30 minute flight and we arrived in Raiatea and headed for the
new luxury Le Tahaa Spa and Resort on Tahaa, the neighboring island
and only 30 minutes by boat transfer. This new Relais & Chateaux
l Resort is situated in some of the most stunningly crystal clear, turquoise
waters we have seen anywhere in the South Pacific. We were greeted with
a welcome drink and chilled towel to refresh us, then escorted to our
overwater bungalow (End of Pontoon Overwater).
We have stayed in every kind of overwater bungalow on every island,
but this was something else. The bungalows are very spacious and tastefully
decorated in understated light colored woods. We opened the door to
find lovely flowers strewn on the bed ... gardenias and hibiscus and
of course tiare flowers. A large window looking out over the turquoise
water, a huge, comfortable bed, lots of closet space and room to organize
luggage, A/C, and a bath to die for. Each bungalow has a large bathroom
with a boat-shaped tub and full shower, along with a separate enclosed
area for the toilet.
From the main bedroom and bath area, we opened up the large glass doors
and walked out onto a huge terrace with 2 comfortable lounge chairs
and a separate, covered breakfast area. By far one the best
deck of any resort in French Polynesia.
Before we knew it we were in the warm water and drifting lazily along.
The snorkeling around the bungalows is rather limited in terms of fish
and coral, but this resort makes up for that with a colorful coral garden
located in a small pass on the other side of the hotel by the pool.
We drifted down in the shallow water amongst purple coral, brightly
colored clams, soft corals and a nice variety of lagoon fish
There are 4 categories of overwater which can get rather confusing --
the Tahaa Ow - the least expensive
which look towards the beach or other bungalows, the Sunset OW which have a view of the sunsets and the lagoon,
and the Bora Bora OW which look at the
lagoon, and at a portion of Bora Bora in the distance. They also added the "End of Pontoon" for those requesting the best view and privacy.
Soon we were hungry and headed toward the main part of the hotel for
lunch. Lunch is served in the lunch area pool side, and a short 2 minute
walk past the tennis courts we were greeted by friendly smiles and escorted
to an open-air table at the edge of an infinity pool with stunning views
of a small motu and the turquoise lagoon merging into the emerald of
Tahaa in the distance. We sat under white topped umbrellas under shading
trees and lunched on tuna tartar, sashimi, fruit and a lovely French
rose wine. We love fresh fish and this is certainly the place to enjoy
it. There was a nice (but limited) menu to select from as well as a
salad bar (we tried it but found it to be rather ordinary).
Dinner was upstairs in the semi open-air restaurant in a handsome main
room with lovely outside terraces nested in the tree tops. We selected
a table outside under a magnificent trees which sheltered the terrace
and enjoyed an ok meal. Overall we felt the quality and choices of dishes
to be somewhat limited.
The beach bungalows/suites are also elegant
and large with a fully separate bedroom with a 4 poster bed, bath, sitting
room and private enclosed wading pool. These are very romantic as well
as perfect for a family with a child or perhaps a child and infant.
But some of the views from the deck can be limited by the overwater
bungalows.
The hotel has a spa offering a wide range of pampering
from massages to facials to body scrubs.
For those so inclined, you can purchase daily excursions and activities
such as shark and ray feeding, visit to a pearl farm, motu picnic, or
perhaps a traditional Polynesian BB at Louise's a friendly local restaurant
on Tahaa. There is a dive shop on the premises, as well as jetski rentals.
All in all, we loved our time here but we found that 2 1/2 days there
was just perfect. One thing to consider is that this resort is located
on a remote motu about a 20 minute boat ride from the main part of Tahaa
and Raiatea, so it is definitely isolated. So if your preference is
a hotel where you can easily go to other restaurants or do a bit of
shopping, this may not quite be what you will want. But if you want
an idyllic setting, seclusion and fabulous bungalows, then you will
not be disappointed.
I should also point out that there is no view of Bora Bora from the
resort except from a few overwater bungalows (the Bora Bora Overwaters)
that look towards the break in the motu allowing a glimpse of Bora Bora
in the distance.

Taha'a; Stayed 4 nights at Le Taha'a - and by choice, 2 nights in overwater bungalow and 2 nights beach villa. If you are looking for privacy, the beach villa is the most incredibly romantic private place we stayed at, that was quite large as well. The separate living room, deck looking out at the beach, outdoor tub and shower with gardens, outdoor dining area, and small plunge pool made this place so special. Your villa and outdoor area (other than beachfront deck) are surrounded by a rock privacy wall. We wanted to experience an OTW bungalow and chose to do it at this resort - but we would have loved to stay the whole time in the beach villa, it was really that great for us. The OTW bungalow was a Taha'a view, we couldn't justify extra money for other views. So wonderful, glass panels at base of bed and bathtub such a novelty. Well appointed - we had amazing views of Tahaa out a large picture window in the front of the bungalow. It was quite windy at times, but we enjoyed the deck area and ability to jump in and swim right from our room.
We used room service breakfast every morning as you can order a la carte, versus restaurant where buffet was only option. We thought the best food was at pool restaurant for lunch. Ate dinner at Vanille which was good but not outstanding. Fitness center was great, clean - good choice of equipment and never busy when we went. Overall incredible place, with amazing attention to detail, but have to say that it did not feel as 'authentic' as Te Tiare.

We just returned from our tahiti honeymoon. We stayed at the Tahaa for 4 nights in an Sunset overwater bungalow(#47)and all
I can say is it was absolute paradise. Completely luxurious, serene,
romantic, and tropical. The bungalows are enormous and very well appointed.
The Sunset bungalows are the ones all the way to the left(if looking
at the diagram)and I found them to be amazingly private. We had no bungalow
on one side of us, because we were the farthest arm outward. This gave
us fabulous sunset views, and I was able to sunbath topless. I would
recommend #41-48 for a great price, views, and privacy. The Bora Bora
bungalows are wonderful and private as well, but in my opinion not worth
the extra money. Bora Bora is very difficult to see from that vantage
point. The Tahaa bungalows are the least desirable in my opinion, because
although the dramatic view of the main island of Tahaa is pretty, the
privacy is sacrificed since your in the middle of all the bungalows
and may have a bungalow next to the boat dock.
We were beyond satisfied with our Sunset bungalow, and I would definitely
choose the same tier next time around.
We didn't
dive or use the spa services, but I think it would be nice to have a
massage in your bungalow. There are about 8 different spa options.
We did snorkel with a guide out on the reef which was very colorful,
but a bit tricky because of the strong current. We also took part
in a 7 course gourmet meal with french-side service(your own dedicated
wait staff) gorgeous views from the restaurant and worth every penny.
Tahaa certainly had the best food of all the islands. We did tours on
the other islands and enjoyed the sheer beauty, romance, and serenity
of Taha'a. The water there I enjoyed just as much as Bora Bora. The
pool is fantastic too.

We just got back, spent 4 nights in Tahaa and 3 nights at Le Meridien
Bora Bora. Next time we'll spend them all at Le Tahaa! Puts the Le Meridien
Bora Bora to shame.
We were in overwater bungalow #9 (at the very end on the north side of
the resort) The food was great (thanks John), the service was great,
the staff was great, but most of all the bungalow, view, and atmosphere
were awesome.

...We
stayed in #31 (Tahaa OW), which was the 3rd one down from the end, so
I believe #33 would be on the end and that would be the one I would
request, and yes, it would still be a Tahaa View. The Bora Bora Views
were actually down another dock.
I only saw the beach bungalows from the outside, and yes, they did look
very large and I'm sure they are gorgeous on the inside as EVERYTHING
is on this property. The beach bungalows have their
own little private pool.
Erica-
The sun sets towards Bora Bora, so the very best sunset view is probably
the BB OW. However, we had a Tahaa view (#31) and our bungalow faced
the direction of Bora Bora, so we still had a fantastic view of the
sunset. I have some breathtaking pictures of it from our deck. As long
as you get a bungalow that the deck is facing in the direction of Bora
Bora (this doesn't necessarily mean a Bora Bora View, if this makes
sense), you will have a great view of the sunset. There is also a little
beach that you can walk to that has sensational views of the sunset
with Bora Bora in the distance and this beach is almost always deserted.
My husband and I walked there at sunset with a cooler (we took a collapsible
cooler- I highly recommend taking one) of Hinanos and enjoyed the view.
Our Tahaa view was not close to the boat dock at all and our deck faced
the other direction away from the dock. There are 3 main "docks"
that the OW bungalows are on, so I guess it depends which "dock"
you are on, because one "dock" was closer to the boat dock
than the other 2, and there probably are some Tahaa Views on that dock.
Regardless
of where you are, I really don't think there are any "bad"
views, just some are better than others.

Stop for ultimate relaxation was Tahaa Private Island Resort in an overwater
bungalow for 4 nights. We chose the End of Pontoon, which places you at the
furthest spot outward and offered much privacy.
The transfer from Raiatea was comfortable, and we enjoyed the boat ride.
Once docking at the Tahaa we were in awe of the tranquil beauty
of this resort and the amazing waters and landscape. This truly was what
we had hoped our paradise would look like up close.
We were greeted with a wonderfully refreshing drink and leis by the most
gracious staff. We were shown our bungalow immediately even though it
was 10am and check-in is listed as 1pm. I cannot put into words just how
amazing our overwater bungalow was, and how every aspect was well appointed,
and every detail well-thought out.
We thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent on Tahaa, and have never experienced
such luxury and yet genuine culture all in one. The staff was so helpful,
warm, and patient. Truly offering us a taste of the Tahitian ways. It
was the only island that taught us tahitian phrases and customs. It most
certainly is quite, but we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and found it
the ultimate romantic setting. The dining was exquisite and we had a private
seven course meal that was wonderful. The swimming directly off the bungalow
was terrific, sunbathing topless on our expansive deck was a treat, breakfast
on the deck in the breakfast nook was perfect, the outdoor shower very
cool. We slept in the hammocks on the beach, snorkeled, kayaked, enjoyed
the infinity pool, and walked the glorious grounds. This resort is perfection,
and we didn't want to leave.
