...I've
stayed there and thought it was great. We stayed in a garden bungalow,
and I would honestly rather be there than in an over-water. Not only are
they less expensive, but more private, I think.
When we were there, it was probably about a 60-40 American-to-European
split. I thought the staff was great, very friendly and helpful. I think
I speak French well enough to get my point across, and that was helpful
in some cases, but the vast majority of staff spoke English.

...I stayed
in an OWB at the Sofitel last April and I highly recommend it. I don't
understand the comments regarding the overwaters being so close together.
I never got the feeling that the bungalows were too close. The snorkeling under the bungalow is great - plenty of pretty coral and fish. I would definitely go with the OWB, it is worth the extra money.

...We
stayed in a deluxe beach bungalow at the Sofitel Moorea Beach Resort. It was beautiful. The bungalow was right on the beach (we had
our own private stretch complete with lounge chairs). We had a perfect
view of Tahiti. The food
there was good - I especially liked the breakfast buffets. They
had something for everyone. We did the snorkeling excursion right from
the hotel which wasn't anything great. In fact, we saw more fish just
outside our bungalow in the water. But our guide did gather some oysters
for us to try and that was tasty with the lime juice. We loved paddling
around in the outrigger canoes and seeing all the different kinds of fish
and coral. We also got a rental car for a day and drove around. We especially
liked the lookout point at Belvedere. We were there 3 nights and then
flew to Bora Bora.

..we stayed 4 nights at Sofitel on Moorea and just loved it.
We were welcomed with a lovely fruit juice cocktail, bags taken to the
room. The OTW bungalows were wonderful. Large unit with sofa, chair, glass
coffee table looking into lagoon.....one night the service was slow at
the Molokai restaurant, but that was due to only 1-2 servers, the other
nights were fine. We thought the food was excellent...We did the 1/2 day
safari and found it a breathtaking tour of Moorea, the bays, Belvedere,
and waterfall.

Hi all, just got back from 8 glorious days in paradise. We stayed for 3 nights at the Sofitel in Moorea. Lovely property. We stayed in a garden bungalow (they called it a deluxe, but I don't know why, it looked like all the others) Anyway, if you've never been to the Sofitel, it is very nice, well manicured, and clean. It has an Asian flair to it, in my opinion, and the staff was wonderful.
The pool was wonderful... the buffet breakfast was good, but the International Buffet wasn't....... and was not worth the $200 it cost for the two of us NOT counting the drinks.
We rented bikes and rode into Cooks Bay. Very pretty... Got some grub and ate most of our lunches at the hotel (bread, cheese, fruits and cucumbers--- and of course wine and Hinano).
