We stayed
at the Pearl Beach. It's really neat how all the hotels come get you by
boat, just way too cool. Since this was the first part of the vacation,
this was the break in period. I completed three whole books here. We stayed
in a beach bungalow (#56?), this was really nice. Our son spent most of
his time on the beach catching sand crabs and building sand castles.
I liked the hotel a lot and the service we received was very good. The
food here was the most expensive of the three islands, in some cases almost
twice as much.
We went over to Vaitape twice. Just wandered the town, bought groceries
and found a good Pizza place (only 3 tables and the pizzas are named after
movies). Of all the places
we stayed, this bungalow was the nicest in layout. Snorkeling was so-so,
since it is so shallow for so far out.

... We were in a deep overwater bungalow (#16) and loved being able
to hop in the water right from our deck, snorkel, swim, take a fresh water
shower - all without leaving our Pearl Beach "home". However,
we also "toured" the beach bungalow and they are bigger than the OW. There are some definite benefits
to both. We met some new friends from Sweden who were in one of the beach
bungalows and they did experience a few problems with mosquitoes (we had
none) and their neighbor had a few land crabs who made their way into
their room! Whatever accommodation you decide on, you will love your experience.

....the beach bungalows are better than the overwater at the pearl
beach. I don't want to give a lot away but it will blow your mind. I just
got back 2 days ago and want to take the next plane back. The pearl beach
is located on the most gorgeous part of bora bora. The one thing that
you won't have in the beach bungalow is the deck into the water, however
I think it took us 6 steps to get to the ocean. The beach bungalow is
so huge at least 5 times the size of the OW. The jacuzzi is so fun, you'll
be lucky if you get out of it for lunch. oh and definitely bring your favorite
cds. There is the coolest stereo with the best speakers to chill with
your favorite music. I am not
going to give anymore away but if you want more info let me know. The
other thing is you're also saving a couple hundred dollars a night! We
met other couples and went into their OW and they saw our beach bungalows,
and they wanted to switch!!! Don't let anybody talk you out of staying
in these wonderful beach bungalows.

After staying at the Hotel Bora Bora we went to the Pearl Beach Resort:
(Scale of 1-10; 7 1/2 if overwater)
We spent 4 nights in a deep overwater bungalow at the Pearl Beach Resort.
Pearl Beach is on a Motu, which we would recommend staying on a motu for
3 or 4 days.
It is incredibly peaceful and so nice not to hear cars and scooters. Deep
overwater is a must if possible. We felt it was highly underrated, but
that's our opinion. The room was decorated very well, clean, comfortable. See thru coffee table
and end tables, lots of windows and a great deck with fresh water shower.
Very breezy, no bugs, and didn't hear our neighbors. The deeper out, the
better. Coral reefs were decent. Our opinion of the food and drinks were
as follows: Breakfast buffet was very good, lunch was ok (served by the
pool), but dinner was a real letdown. We thought the dinners were bland,
expensive, understaffed, and threw a lame show at you to divert your attention.
We preferred getting room service for dinner. At least if you didn't like
it, you could feed it to the fish which was rather fun. While at Pearl
Beach we did the 4x4 tour. This was fun and scenic. This allowed you to
see the entire island (including the mountain views of this breath-taking
island). Guides were fun, and the terrain was hairy. It's about 3 hours.
We also did a waverunner tour of the island with Karl (at Pearl Beach).
This was our favorite activity. We thought this was an amazing way to
experience the colors of Bora Bora. The tour is about 2 hours (18,100
FPF or $190 USD) and you circle the island, stop on a private motu (for
coconuts, bananas, and pineapples). Pearl Beach is all about the overwater
bungalow, if you don't get one, then it's probably worth exploring other
alternatives. If you do, it goes a long way to making your stay awesome.
Better views than Hotel Bora Bora.

...From
Huahine we traveled to Bora Bora. What an amazing sight from the plane.
Has to be the most stunning lagoon in all the world. Shades of blue beyond
any spectrum. We stayed at the Pearl Beach. Great views of the whole island and a nice beach. You must go on the
shark feeding excursion and the 4x4 safari.
...off to Bora Bora and WE LOVED IT. It was what we expected, just crystal
clear waters, less trash and less touristy. We stayed at the Pearl Beach
in an overwater, it was just breathtaking. While I was showering I could
look out over the ocean and the mountains. Though snorkeling wasn't that
great, the water is clear and clean and you could swim.
...Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort. Secluded, superb beach, best view, best
water, excellent food and great staff! While we did sample both the beach bungalows
and overwater bungalows, we much preferred the beach bungalows. They're spacious,
beautiful, very private, offer more for your buck and did I mention glamorous?
Here, you're right on the beach, where a full mooned night has it's own
magic. The grounds are also well-worth checking out. They offer a mini
golf course and evening shows. There is also an assortment of watersports
from canoeing to kayaking. The manta rays, moray eels and flying fish
could all be viewed from the kayaks and we got to explore our own private
motus. Pontoon canoes are more work than they look like in the pics-start
off on little adventures if you use this one. We did ask the hotel staff
if it was permissible to go on any motu and were told we could, but some
had "privee" or "tabu" signs-meaning it's a no go.
We did find a few uninhabited ones though and had a wonderful adventure.
The snorkeling was also some of the best in the warmest water, though
I often get creeped out by the unnerving curiosity of barracudas. Just
don't wear shiny metallic things in the water or flail your limbs about
and you should do fine. Also, avoid coral areas at low tide in kayaks
or canoes. The restaurants here are also very good and offer excellent
room service. The primary benefit of the overwater bungalows was that you
could feed the barracuda at night from the glass topped tables. Sometimes
prices are converted to dollars, by moving the decimal point over (which
is way off). While it's not considered polite to haggle over prices with
our hosts, a better rate is established if they're willing to charge your
bill in Polynesian francs-VISA seems to give better rates for currency
exchanges. They also have a nice on-line site to visit.
Bora Bora - the Pearl Beach was our favorite hotel. The bungalows were
very nicely decorated, with many details.
The service at the hotel was excellent and the
food good. The boat to the main island was no problem and usually on time.
We ate at several restaurants on the island and never had a problem with
transportation to/from the boat. Bloody Mary's is a waste of time and
money. The food was poor to average and the atmosphere was equally bad.
The best restaurant on the island in our experience was Top Dive. The
food was good, service great and the atmosphere fantastic. Prices were
just a bit higher than Bloody's. The 4x4 tour is excellent and the shark
feeding tour is good too (the snorkeling and motu visit were better than
the actual shark feeding). The hotel can arrange dinner in most any restaurant and the restaurants
will pick you up at the PB base on the main island. The only drawback we found was the wind. The PB seems to be on the windy
side of the island (this was verified by our 4x4 tour guide). However,
I wouldn't let this sway your decision - it made the OW bungalows cooler
at night!
We would definitely return to this resort!
Lee
Pearl Beach - gorgeous garden bungalow with private courtyard but we were
never able to use it - gotten eaten alive by mosquitoes!! Thank god for
A/C so we could keep it closed up. Wanted to relax on our lovely deck
but couldn't. With bug spray they wouldn't bite but they would circle
you until they found the spot you didn't spray! Heard only the overwater's weren't a problem. Boat shuttle
to main island is every 45 minutes but drops off miles from town (definitely
not walking distance) so need to catch the bus which is only there ~6
times a day. Found this extremely limiting and frustrating on
vacation living to a schedule. Caught the morning shuttle to eat breakfast
in town - much cheaper and really good. Ate several bfasts/lunches
at L'Appetisserie in Commercial Center right in town. Ham and cheese
crepe for breakfast, yummy hot sandwiches for lunch, etc. Again, good
to get groceries/drinks in town to stock up in room (mini-bar prices are
very high)
