Bora Bora Le Maitai Hotel

360º Panoramas

View of the Beach with Bungalows
A Beach or Overwater Bungalow

Located on the main beach of Bora Bora, between the Bora Bora Intercontinental and the Sofitel Marara, this lovely property has 20 overwater, 7 beachfront, plus 28 air-conditioned lanai rooms.

This hotel is divided in 2 parts: the A/C rooms are in the rear of the lobby, about 100 yards from the beach, and the bungalows are on the beach across a road. This is Bora Bora's (small) public road which runs between the restaurant/front desk area and the beach and bungalows. The beach is fairly narrow and divided in 2 portions. It is pleasant but devoid of any seclusion.

The beach / overwater bungalows have a tasteful Polynesian decor with such amenities as king size bed, phone,TV, hair dryer, refrigerator, overhead fan, and a terrace overlooking the lagoon.

Le Maitai provides four-star service and accommodations at reasonable prices. Beautifully landscaped grounds, a good restaurant and a full host of available activities make this property a good value for an enjoyable vacation.

All the bungalows as well as the restaurant are crafted in traditional style, with exotic woods and pandanus roofs.

The Beach and Overwater Bungalows have king size bed, phone,TV, hair dryer, refrigerator, overhead fan, and a terrace overlooking the lagoon. The Overwater Bungalows have glass coffee tables for lagoon viewing and sundecks with easy access into the lagoon.  The standard rooms and lagoon view rooms have air conditioning while the Beach Bungalows and Overwater Bungalows are cooled naturally by a ceiling fan.

The A/C Rooms are located in the buildings on the side of the hill at the back of the resort.  The Mountain View Room has no view of the lagoon.  Obviously, the Lagoon View Rooms do.

Resort Reviews
(by TahitiTravel clients)

..We stayed at Le Maitai last Feb. We loved it. We were in an overwater bungalow and watched the sunrise over the motu ever morning and in the evening we walked down the road to Matira beach and watched the sunset. There was great snorkeling right off the bungalow deck and we used the kayaks and paddled out to the Coral Gardens to snorkel also. The service was good and we got lots of help from staff for excursions. The restaurant on the beach for lunch was great. Easy walk to groceries, restaurants and shops. We had the kids with us so staying at Le Maitai allowed us to get 2 overwater bungalows (1 for kids other for us). We expected 3 star when we went but were more than pleased with everything.

..We stayed at Le Maitai the end of August..three days in overwater bungalow and four days in hotel across the street. The hotel rooms have a/c and a magnificent view, but the noise from the street when sitting on the balcony was bothersome. The restaurant/cafe on the beach is great, we ate there several times, the restaurant in the main building is not good, overpriced and few people were there. Nearby market provided our breakfast. We used the kayaks and went over to the Coral Gardens, off the Sofitel Motu, where the boats drop off divers and snorkellers..magnificent!! (And free!)

...We stayed there in March 08 and would definitely go back! While Le Maitai is not a 5-star hotel, it was definitely nicer than we were expecting for a 3-star. We stayed in an OW bungalow and the views are definitely great! We could see the Sofitel Motu, Coral Gardens and the Beachcomber OWs from our bungalow. Our room was very clean and a good size. Of course, there are bigger OW on the islands, but again, we did not expect much after coming from the Intercontinental Moorea. The Tiare Market is within walking distance as well as other local restaurants/hotels. You can rent bicycles and go to Vaitape in the am and relax and snorkel in the afternoon. I had never been snorkeling before, so I don't have much to compare it's snorkeling too, but there was enough fish to keep us in the water for hours at a time! :-)

The staff is very friendly and will help you to get around to restaurants (Bloody Mary's) and other activities/excursions. They don't have an ice machine, but if you like your beer cold, I'd suggest bringing a small, compact cooler to chill 2-3 drinks at a time. It seemed a little weird to them, but they went ahead and gave us some ice from the bar in the afternoon. Yes, the OW had a small refrigerator, but it only keeps the food/drinks "cool", not "COLD".
We would definitely stay there again, but next time get an AC room. While the OWs offered a nice ocean breeze, there were times (especially in the afternoon) when the AC would have been very welcomed. The ocean breeze doesn't get too far onto the island (all the tropical plants), so dinner was a little "sticky" on nights, but that goes for most of the restaurants on the islands. We are definitely sticking with the AC rooms on the next trip!
....We stayed at Le MaiTai and LOVED it! We were in the new wing of the overwater bungalows and it was clean, bed comfy and snorkeling great. The outdoor cafe was delish and the staff very friendly. You will not be disappointed - the best value on the island if you ask me!

...We stayed at the Maitai in an O/W bungalow and it was excellent. The hotel has a good location, with a "market" just down the road. We ate quite a few meal's in the hotel restaurants (mostly breakfast and dinner) and we found the quality of the food good and the prices reasonable. The hotel has a lovely little beach, a nice reef and allows free use of snorkel equipment, outriggers, and kayaks. We kayaked over to the reef behind the Sofitel Motu for some of the best snorkeling I have ever seen! Another favorite activity was a bike ride around the island one morning (18 miles = 4 hours). We ate the obligatory dinner at Bloody Mary's and were not disappointed. IMO, Bora Bora is not to be missed if you travel to Tahiti, it is truly a paradise! One recommendation, bring your own bottle (duty free?) if you would like to have drinks...we did and saved lots of $$$.
