Located
at the Pointe Matira on a white sand beaches, the Intercontinental Le Moana provides an upscale but low key setting for your visit to Bora Bora. This
5 star resort shares the same beach with a few other hotels such as the
Le Maitai and the Sofitel Marara, but these properties are far enough from
each other so that you may never see another tourist. This is, however,
the more "touristy" part of Bora Bora (relatively speaking..)
where you will find a few shops and a couple of restaurants nearby, as well
as local tour/excursion companies.
The Bungalows
The Intercontinental has 67 bungalow suites - 13 sit on the white sand
beach, and 54 over the lagoon. All of the suites feature a large sun terrace, living
room, bedroom (separated by a sliding door), and a spacious bathroom with a bath
and dressing area decorated with live vanilla plants.
The Beach Bungalows are secluded in the vegetation at the edge of the beach in a
very attractive and cool setting, with a view of the beach and the overwater bungalows
in the lagoon.
The 54 bungalows over the lagoon have split-level sun terraces with stairs into the
lagoon and a shower on the lower terrace. The glass coffee table in the living room
looks into the lagoon, with its clear turquoise water and sand bottom at an average
depth of 5 feet / 1.5 m.
Depending on their situation, the overwater bungalow will be priced as "Horizon"
or as "Lagoon". The "Horizons" guarantee an unobstructed
view of the lagoon scenery while the "Lagoons" could be facing the beach
or other bungalows in the distance.
Beach Suites - secluded beach front bungalows set near the white sandy shores of the lagoon, from your private terrace you are only steps from the crystal blue waters.
Lagoon Overwater Suites - Built over the clear waters of the Bora Bora lagoon, these bungalows offer a private split level deck with direct access to the waters below. Lagoon Overwater Suites are located closer to shore and offer views of the beach and the island’s tropical interior.
Horizon Overwater Suites - Located the furthest from shore and from the resort, these bungalows offer absolute privacy with views of the horizon and surrounding motus.

..The Intercontinental Le Moana was very nice but the o/w bungalows didn't have quite
as many windows to open as on Rangiroa. Again, nicely decorated and clean.
The resort is very nice and the grounds are manicured. Staff are friendly
for the most part. Good food but I don't think I would get a meal plan
on this island for two reasons. One, it's too much food. You get an appetizer,
entree, and desert which we did not always feel like eating that much.
Two, there are a lot more restaurants. We had lunch at LeBounty and it
was good. We closed down Bloody Mary's with some fun people we met for
our 30th wedding anniversary. You have to go there once just to say you've
been there. Food is pretty good. Spray your legs, sand floors. Le Moana had a happy hour for all Americans on 4th of July which was a nice touch.
Hotel management mingled with the crowd. This resort was small enough to get to know some of the staff. Overall
they were friendly and we got good service. Do the 4x4 island tour and
the jet ski tour from Miki Miki's. Great lagoon and water.
... all the hotels
were lovely but we especially want to commend the Intercontinental Le Moana on Bora
Bora for their excellent service and lovely bungalows! The 5 days we
spent there were the highlight of our trip. Our bungalow was number 33
and it was the only one with 2 balconies, and we really made use of both
of them.
Ted and Kate
....we really liked
Le Moana: the service was fantastic, and our bungalow was great. We were
pleasantly surprised by the music and dance performances at night, which
were very nice and friendly without being overdone. I spent most of the
time around our bungalow swimming or reading. the water was gorgeous.
I saw something new under the water every day...a different type of fish,
or an eel, or a sting ray. The flowers and plants at the hotel are gorgeous
too. One night we went to the Bamboo house with a couple we met at the
hotel. I would not recommend this restaurant: About the same prices as
the Le Moana but not nearly the quality, also the atmosphere wasn't
very nice (lots of mosquitoes, not enough fans)...
